2021 Business Goals: You are Halfway There

It may seem hard to believe but we are halfway through the calendar year.  Hopefully, your business goals are tracking on the plan you set for it at the beginning of the year.  Sometimes we have gotten caught up in the act of working in the business and maybe lost sight of the direction we were heading.  It happens – as Business Owners we are busy reacting every day to multiple things, whether it is customers, vendors, or employees.

From start to finish we are responding to everything, so it is understandable if perhaps you veered off course.

So now is a terrific time to stop, take a few moments, and revisit your plan.  Do you need a course correction?

Maybe you realize the direction you wanted to go needs to be adjusted. Perhaps a new challenge arose – think supply chain challenges or how about the increased costs for shipping/containers for importing – all the little and big potholes that can detour us.

Use this spot in the calendar to ask yourself “What do you want to accomplish going forward to the end of 2021?” What is the definition of success for the remainder of the year?

Perhaps as the Business Leader, you have been in the weeds, and you need to get back to that 70,000-foot view and really think through the lens of Business Health: Revenue, expenses, and advertising.  This mid-year review exercise is a great stopping place to look at what is working in your business.

Did you develop Key Performance Indicators for your business goals? Have you reviewed those KPI’s? Do they need to be updated?

We are being challenged to keep our flexibility and be open to the swirling effect of the external forces around us.  Give yourself, your leadership team, and your staff some focus so you can identify what is working for your business.  Ask yourself what is currently not working and how do you need to change?

It is interesting so often as the days/months click by we find ourselves tolerating thing, and it tends to accumulate and becomes clutter.

What have you been tolerating and what is one action you can take today to handle or resolve that item?    So often we can get side-tracked. Some of us may even suffer from S.O.S. or Shiny-Object Syndrome.

We jump from initiative to imitative and each time we do we have to unlearn what we were working on and then learn new skills as we chase that new idea.  There will always be a higher mountain in the future.  Challenge yourself to stop, take a breath, look in your rearview mirror, and then focus on moving forward. Maximize the remainder of the year and get back on track in your journey to the destination you have for your business.
